SIOUX CITY | Matt Fawcett’s game-winning goal at the 4:41 mark of overtime gave the Sioux City Musketeers a 4-3 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede Tuesday night in a United States Hockey League exhibition game at the Tyson Events Center.
Solag Bakich, who had three goals and three assists for last year’s Musketeers squad that fell to Chicago in the Clark Cup Finals, assisted on Fawcett’s game-winner.
It was a game that featured two lead changes. Micah Miller scored the last of his two goals in the second period to give Coach Luke Strand’s Musketeers a 2-1 lead, but Sioux Falls took its first lead with back-to-back goals 3 ½ minutes apart, going up 3-2 on Artem Ivanyuzhenkov’s goal with 7:24 left in the third period.
About a minute later, Sioux City’s Sampa Ranta's goal tied the game.
Luke Johnson dished two assists for the Musketeers, which had a 35-28 shots on goal advantage.
Goaltenders Matt Jurusik and Gabe Vinal recorded 19 and nine assists, respectively, as the Musketeers (1-1) bounced back from last Thursday’s 3-0 loss at Omaha.
Sioux City will host Des Moines Friday night at exhibition play continues.
