SIOUX CITY -- Sampo Ranta's goal in the shootout gave the Sioux City Musketeers a 3-2 victory over Tri-City at the Tyson Events Center on Sunday.
The Storm scored twice in the third period to force overtime, but after a scoreless extra session Ranta was the only skater to score in the shootout. Musketeers goaltender Matt Jurusik stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.
The Musketeers struck first in the game as Micah Miller found the back of the net for his 17th goal of the season off an assist from Parker Ford.
After neither team scored in the second period, Tri-City tied the game on Tyler Madden's goal 21 seconds into the third and took the lead about two minutes later when Connor McMenamin lit the lamp on the power play.
The Musketeers' Bauer Neudecker would even the game at 2-all when he beat Tri-City goaltender Connor Hopkins nine minutes into the period with helpers going to Nate Clurman and Nate Knoepke. Hopkins was pushed into emergency duty when the Storm's top two goalies were held out with illness.
Tri-City was 1 of 4 on the power play and outshot the Musketeers 33-29. Sioux City was 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
The win put the Musketeers into a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference at 21-19-6 with Lincoln with 48 points. Tri-City is in fifth place with 57 points.
The Musketeers are back in action Friday when they travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Stampede.
