SIOUX FALLS | Mathieu De St. Phalle scored two goals Saturday night while leading the Sioux City Musketeers to a 5-2 United States Hockey League preseason win over the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night at Scheels IcePlex.

Matt Fawcett added a goal and an assist for Coach Luke Strand’s Musketeers, which bounced back from Friday night’s 2-0 loss to Des Moines at the Tyson Events Center. Sioux City’s preseason mark is now 2-2.

De St. Phalle and Fawcett each scored goals for the Musketeers in the first period. Fawcett, who scored the game-winning goal in last Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime win over Sioux Falls, assisted on Samuel Salonen’s power-play goal at the 5:01 mark of the second period.

The Musketeers were scoreless in 11 straight power play chances in three previous games before the goal from Salonen, a native of Vantaa, Finland.

De St. Phalle joined Micah Miller as the only Musketeers with a 2-goal game thus far when his second-period goal produced a 4-0 advantage.

Randy Hernandez tallied a third-period power play for the Musketeers, which were outshot 33-30. Winning goaltender Matt Jurusik had 31 saves.

Eric Otto and Sam Hentges scored goals in the first and third periods, respectively, for the Buccaneers Friday night.

Jurusik had 27 saves in the loss.

Sioux City will conclude preseason play with two USHL Fall Classic games which will be played at the UPMC Dick’s Sporting Goods Rink in Pittsburgh, Pa. Cedar Rapids will face the Musketeers at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) Thursday while Muskegon is Friday night’s 8 o’clock opponent.
