MUSKETEERS NOTES

Tonight’s action is against the Chicago Steel, who on May 23rd, defeated the Musketeers 2-1 in overtime in Game 5 of the Clark Cup Finals, a game that attracted 6,309 fans, the most to ever attend a game at the Tyson Events Center … Defenseman Keegan Mantaro (1 assist) scored a first-period goal in Game 1 against the Steel that forced a 2-all tie, assisted by Micah Miller (0 points), who recorded the first of his three assists in that contest … Sampo Ranta (3 goals, 1 assist) has scored in three of the Musketeers’ five games and ranks second on the team with 16 shots, two less than Cole Koepke (0 points) … Ranta is the lone Musketeer with two power-play points, recording a goal and an assist on a special teams unit that is just 2 of 23 after five games … Lucas Bahn (1 goal) became the Musketeers’ first defenseman to score a goal when he buried a shot with one second left in the second period in Saturday night’s 3-1 loss to Des Moines … Matt Fawcett (2 assists), who assisted along with Martin Pospisil (1 assist) on Ranta’s third-period goal in Friday night’s 4-1 loss to Waterloo, is tied with Hayden Rowan (1, 2) for the team assist lead … Defensively, Sioux City ranks fifth in the United States Hockey League with 13 goals allowed, an average of 2.6 per game … However, on the flip side, the Musketeers have scored only eight goals, including one in three of the last four games ... Two more playoff teams from last season are also struggling to score goals, Muskegon (8) and Dubuque (6).

CHICAGO NOTES

Tonight will mark a homecoming of sorts for Chicago head coach Mark Abalan, who played for the Musketeers in the 1994-95 season and was an assistant Musketeers coach for five seasons (2011-16) … Abalan guided Shattuck St. Mary’s to a 41-10-4 record in the 2016-17 season and a berth in the USA Hockey Under-16 championship game … The defending Clark Cup champions feature Jack Dugan (6 goals, 2 assists), who’s tied with Central Illinois’ Max Andreev for first in the USHL with eight points … Dugan has two power-play goals and two power-play assists … Samuel Bucek (3, 3) has a power play goal and two power-play assists while Blake McLaughlin (2, 4) had two goals and an assist in Saturday’s win over Madison … Baker Shore (2, 4) had six goals and 10 assists last year for the Steel and scored a goal in a Game 1 5-4 overtime loss in the Clark Cup Finals to the Musketeers … Paced by Aaro Vidgren’s three power play goals, the Steel are tops on the man advantage at 50 percent (9 of 18).

TRI-CITY NOTES

Filip Larsson (4-1), who received USHL goaltender of the week honors on Monday, ranks fifth in the league with his 1.62 goals-against-average … A native of Sweden who was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in last summer’s NHL Draft, Larsson recorded his first shutout of the season in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Lincoln, a game where Filip Forsmark (2 goals, 2 assists) scored two goals … Former Musketeer Connor McMenamin (3 assists) dealt two assists on goals from Joey Cipollone (2 goals) and Caleb Rule (1, 1) in last Friday’s 4-1 win over Omaha … McMenamin had eight goals and 10 assists at Sioux City last season … Tri-City is perfect in 13 chances on the penalty kill and is also fifth on the power play at 20 percent (4 of 20) … Both of Forsmark’s goals have come on the power play … Adam Goodsir (2 goals) had 16 goals and 10 assists for Tri-City last season while another of the Storm’s returning veterans is defenseman Bryan Yoon (2 assists), who had two goals and 16 assists.
