MUSKETEERS NOTES

Musketeers scoring leader Sampo Ranta (5 goals, 3 assists) is one of four skaters from throughout the United States Hockey League who were given “A” ratings on the NHL Central Scouting list that was released Wednesday ... Players who receive A ratings are potential first-round selections in this summer’s NHL Draft and Ranta, a native of Naantaly, Finland, hasn’t been the only Musketeer from Finland to score this rating as Eeli Tolvanen (30 goals, 24 assists in 2016-17) was an A-rated skater who eventually selected in the first round by the Nashville Predators ... Three Musketeers were given “C” ratings, right wing Samuel Salonen (2 goals), left wing Martin Pospisil (2 assists) and goaltender Ben Kraws (0-2, 4.57 goals-against-average) ... Ranta has a goal and two assists this season against Fargo ... During a 3-0 win at Madison on March 3, Ranta had a goal and an assist ... This is only the Musketeers’ second game against an Eastern Conference opponent this season, as defending Clark Cup champion Chicago was a 5-3 winner on Oct. 27 ... Among the stops in Musketeers head coach Luke Strand’s coaching career was Madison, as he guided the Capitols to a 24-25-11 record, serving as both head coach and general manager ... Matt Jurusik (3-4-2) ranks sixth among USHL goaltenders with a 2.41 GAA ... Dorian Dawson (1, 1) is the Musketeers’ first defenseman this season to score in two straight games ... a blue-liner with Fargo to start the season, Dawson scored a third-period goal against the Force, assisted by Ranta and Parker Ford (1 assist) ... Ford was the Musketeers’ leader with five assists in the preseason ... Hayden Rowan (2, 3) and Mathieu De St. Phalle (1, 2) joined Ranta as goal-scorers in a 3-2 season-opening win over Fargo while Matt Miller (1, 1) scored his first goal of the season in last Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Force.

MADISON NOTES

Two former Musketeer defensemen are on the Madison roster, Conner Mayer (1 goal, 4 assists) and Ryan Bederka (2 goals) ... Mayer had eight assists for last year’s Anderson Cup champion Musketeers squad ... Bederka had a goal and three assists for the Musketeers in the 2015-16 season and played nine games to begin the 2016 portion of the year before he was traded to Madison ... Capitols leading scorer Alec Broetzman (6, 7) has 20 goals and 21 assists in his third season with the squad ... Broetzman enters tonight’s game at Sioux City riding a five-game scoring streak where he has four goals and four assists ... Mick Messner (2, 8) is another three-year member of Madison, where has career totals of 15 goals and 30 assists ... Ryan O’Reilly (7, 1) collected his third 2-goal game of the season in last Friday’s 6-3 win over Cedar Rapids ... Cade Borchardt and Anthony Callin each have two goals and five assists for a squad that has outscored opponents 12-6 in a current three-game winning streak.

FARGO NOTES

Tied with Chicago’s Jack Dugan for the USHL scoring lead, Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup (12 goals, 5 assists) hiked his scoring streak to 11 games when he assisted on second-period goals from Grant Hebert (6, 9) and William Fallstrom (3, 6) in last Saturday’s 4-2 win over the Musketeers at the Tyson Events Center ... Hebert, third in the league with his point total, has a seven-game scoring streak while Griffin Loughran (6, 8), the fifth-leading scorer, saw a six-game scoring streak come to an end at Sioux City ... Hebert and defenseman Ty Farmer (9 assists) are each tied for third in the USHL in assists ... Fargo’s first-place Western Conference start not only includes a league-high 50 goals, it also has the best goaltender tandem in Strauss Mann (4-0) and Ryan Bischel (5-3-2), who rank third and eighth, respectively with 2.03 and 2.49 GAA’s ... Fargo has the league’s best power play at 32.1 percent (17 of 53), paced by Schmidt-Svejstrup, who has five man-advantage goals while Hebert and Ben Meyers (4, 3) each have four.
