SIOUX FALLS | Jack Becker’s goal with 13:39 left in the second period gave the Sioux Falls Stampede a 2-1 United States Hockey League over the Sioux City Musketeers Friday night in front of 7,410 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Becker’s goal, his second of the season against the Musketeers, came about a minute after Phillip Knies’ 21st goal of the season knotted the game at 1-all.

Knies’ team-best 10th power-play goal marked his fourth red-lighter against the Stampede this season. Odeen Tufto and Eeli Tolvanen assisted on the goal that marked the second straight game with a power play goal for Coach Jay Varady’s squad.

Sioux City (40-12-7) didn't convert a chance to score a second power-play goal that would have deadlocked the game in the third period. Overall, the Anderson Cup winners had a 9-2 shots on goal advantage in the final period, but it wasn’t enough.

Winning goaltender Jeremy Swayman (7-18-5) posted just his second win of the season against the Musketeers. Swayman, like the Musketeers’ Matiss Kivlenieks (36-7-6) has played in each of the games of the season series.

Sioux City has dropped two straight games since winning the Anderson Cup. Friday night’s loss meant the Musketeers won’t have a chance to tie the team record for wins in a season, set in 1985-86 when the squad, then coached by Bob Ferguson, went 42-6.

Sioux Falls (20-30-9) will host the Musketeers in the final game of the regular season tonight.
