PLYMOUTH, Mich. | Team USA's 18-Under squad snapped a 2-all tie by scoring five goals in the second period and went on to post a 9-2 United States Hockey League win over the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena.

The five goals were the most allowed in a period by the Musketeers this season. Jake Wise, Jake Pivonka and Joel Farabee each recorded one goal and one assist in the middle 20 minutes.

Farabee, the squad’s scoring leader with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) is one of three team members who have received ‘A’ ratings in the latest NHL Central Scouting players to watch list. Teammate Oliver Wahlstrom became the second opponent in as many nights to score two goals against the Musketeers, recording one in both the second and third periods.

Each of the goals were scored against goaltender Ben Kraws (1-2-1), who was making his first start since Dec. 2, when he posted a 2-0 win at Dubuque. Matt Jurusik, the winner between the pipes in Friday night’s 5-4 shootout win at USA Hockey Arena, had started each of the Musketeers’ 10 previous games.

Sioux City (11-12-5) suffered its first loss after registering at least one point in each of the last eight games, which included two shootout losses and one overtime defeat. Cole Koepke’s team-high 12th goal of the season forced a 1-all tie at the 15:42 mark of first period and teammate Martin Pospisil scored 29 minutes later for a 2-1 lead.

Jonathan Gruden’s goal with 15 seconds left before the first intermission forced the tie and marked the first of the eight unanswered goals that carried Team USA, whose 18-Under squad improved to 7-2-1. The 17-Under team took a 6-7 record into Saturday night’s game at Central Illinois.

Sioux City will conclude its Eastern Conference road trip this afternoon with a 3:05 game at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill., against the Chicago Steel.
