NEWARK, N.J. | Three Sioux City Musketeers were selected in the 2013 NHL Draft on Sunday.
Jake Guentzel, the United States Hockey League rookie of the year, was taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round with the 77th overall selection.
Guentzel scored 29 goals and had 44 assists, for 73 points, in 60 games in a Musketeers sweater during the 2012-13 season.
Guentzel, a forward, was named to the All-USHL second team following what will be his one and only season in Sioux City. Guentzel has chosen to skate for Nebraska-Omaha next season.
Blake Heinrich was selected in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick by the Washington Capitals. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound defenseman had three goals and 17 assists (20 points) in 42 games this season.
Avery Peterson, a 6-foot-2, 193-pound, forward from Grand Rapids, Minn, who appeared in eight games in a Sioux City uniform was a sixth-round pick (167 overall) of the Minnesota Wild.
