KEARNEY, Neb. | Tri-City scored three goals in just over a seven minute span of the second period and held on for a 3-1 win over Sioux City in a United States Hockey League game played at Viaero Center Friday evening.
After a scoreless first period, the Storm broke ahead at 8:09 of the second period when Brian Hawkinson scored off assists from Tony Malinowski and Michael Maloney. Tri-City made it 2-0 with the Musketeers' Micah Miller in the penalty box for boarding with Maloney scoring at 13:44 of the middle period. Adam Goodsir increased the Storm lead to 3-0 with the third straight tally 4:38 before the second intermission.
Sioux City got on a scoreboard 2:26 into the third period when Sampo Ranta got his second goal of the season on an unassisted effort. Tri-City had a 25-24 edge in shots on goal with Sioux City netminder Matt Jurusik stopping 22 shots. The Musketeers, now 1-1, entertain Sioux Falls in their home opener Saturday evening at the Tyson Events Center.
