DENISON, Iowa – Denison-Schleswig rebounded from a halftime deficit and the No. 16 (2A) Monarchs defeated 14th-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton 2-1 in the regular season finale for both teams on Thursday in Denison, Iowa.

SB-L’s Drew Marksbury scored in the 21st minute off an assist from Ty Shoulders to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead they would take into halftime. Cesar Rodriguez scored in the 45th minute for Denison-Schleswig to tie the game at 1-all. Diego Diaz then scored the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute and Denison Schleswig held on to win.

Goalkeeper Efren Magana recorded eight saves for Denison-Schleswig (9-4) and Brennan Sitzmann notched 22 saves for SB-L (10-5).

SB-L plays next on Wednesday in the Class 2A substate tournament in Denison against the winner of Denison-Schleswig and Spirit Lake.

SB-L 5, WEST 1: The Sergeant Bluff-Luton girls soccer team scored five second-half goals and the Warriors defeated West 5-1 in a Missouri River Activities Conference match on Thursday in Sergeant Bluff.

The win improves SB-L to 7-7 while West falls to 4-9.

NORTH 3, SPIRIT LAKE 0: The Sioux City North girls soccer team shutout Spirit Lake 3-0 in a nonconference match on Thursday in Sioux City.

North improves to 8-6 with the win.
