STORM LAKE, Iowa | For the second straight year, Buena Vista has a pair of first-team selections on the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball team, junior utility player Keely Bycroft and senior designated player Marissa Schmidt.
Bycroft, a native of Bondurant, Iowa, repeated as a first-team selection. She becomes the program’s first two-time first-team selection since BVU Hall of Famer Andi Royster in 1996 and 1997.
Bycroft split time between the pitching circle and first base. She ranked fifth in the IIAC in hitting (.451), recording at least one hit in 13 of the team’s 16 conference games while on the mound, she picked up four wins.
A second-team all-conference performer in 2015, Schmidt hit .365 in IIAC play and drove in 15 runs. The Sergeant Bluff native struck out only once in 58 plate appearances against conference pitching in a season where she blasted a walk-off grand slam in a 7-5 win over Simpson.
Buena Vista (20-17, 8-8 IIAC) turned in two first-team all-conference selections for the first time since doing so in four straight years from 1993 to 1996.
