Morningside GPAC softball favorite
SIOUX CITY – Morningside totaled 72 points and is the preseason coaches' selection to win the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference Softball Championship.
The Mustangs tallied seven first place votes. Concordia was picked to finish second with 68 points. Hastings, Dordt and Midland all received first place votes.
Northwestern was picked to tie for sixth while Briar Cliff was picked 11th.
Morningside posted a 40-12 record last spring while posting a 17-3 record in the GPAC winning the regular season title. Hastings won the GPAC tournament championship last year, defeating Morningside in three games.
Concordia GPAC baseball pick
SIOUX CITY – Concordia totaled 80 points and is the preseason coaches' selection to win the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference Baseball Championship. The Bulldogs tallied eight first place votes. Midland, tabbed second with 74 points, had two first place votes.
Concordia posted a 34-22 record last spring while posting a 19-9 conference record to finish claim the GPAC regular season title. Midland, did picked up the GPAC tournament title with a 5-3 win over Concordia. The Warriors, finished the year with a 42-20 overall record. Both the Bulldogs and the Warriors received bids to the opening round of the NAIA tournament.
Morningside was picked third, Northwestern sixth, Briar Cliff eighth and Dordt ninth.
USD golf picked to win Summit
ELMHURST, Ill. – The South Dakota men’s golf team was picked first in the preseason Summit League poll announced Friday. The Coyotes garnered four first-place votes and 46 total points in the poll.
South Dakota ended the fall season on top of the Summit League leaderboard, averaging 288.9 strokes per round. Junior Tommy Vining leads the league with an average of 71.1 strokes per round and won back-to-back Summit League Golfer of the Month awards in September and October.
South Dakota is picked as the preseason favorite for the first time, eclipsing the previous high of third in last season’s poll. The Coyotes placed third at last season’s Summit League Championship, just four strokes behind winner South Dakota State.
