FORT COLLINS, Colo. | South Dakota pitcher Rachel Cue pitched her 11th complete game of the season and won her seventh straight decision as the Coyotes defeated Texas Tech 5-2 in non-conference softball action Saturday.
USD also dropped a 6-0 decision to host Colorado State and are now 21-28. CSU pitcher Larisa Petakoff blanked South Dakota on six hits for her fourth shutout of the season.
Cue (11-8) allowed seven hits and struck out two. Her batterymate, catcher Jessica Rogers, fell a home run shy of the cycle against the Raiders (17-32). Her two-run triple in the fourth inning doubled the Coyote lead to 4-0. Camille Fowler’s sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Morgan Vasa to extend the lead to 5-1.
USD's Emily Winckler had two hits in each of the games while teammate Christy Warnock doubled twice in the loss to CSU.
The Coyotes close out their regular season with a game each with Tech and Colorado State today. USD will open play in the Summit League tournament in Faggo, North Dakota Wednesday against Omaha in a first round game.
