SIOUX CITY -- Morningside College track and field and cross country coach Dave Nash has announced 14 women's recruits who will join the Mustangs this fall.
The headliner is Megan Glisar, a high jumper-sprinter from Sergeant Bluff who will join the Mustangs with sophomore eligibility as a transfer from NCAA Division I University of Iowa. Glisar finished 19th in the high jump at the 2010 Big Ten Conference Indoor Championships with a height of 5-4.25. She had season bests of 5-6 indoors and 5-5 outdoors.
Glisar is a 2009 graduate of Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School and is the only athlete in Iowa high school track & field history to win four high jump titles at the state meet. She was a two-time runner-up in the high jump at the Drake Relays and earned National Scholastic Sports Foundation All-America honors with a third place finish in the high jump at the 2007 Nike outdoor meet.
She was the high jump champion at the 2006 USA Junior Olympics and 2007 USA Youth Outdoor National Championships, placed second at the 2007 USA Junior Olympics, and fifth at the 2007 USA Junior Nationals. Glisar set Sergeant Bluff-Luton outdoor records in the high jump (5-8) and 400 meters (58.01) and indoor records in the high jump (5-7), 200 meters (28.09), and 400 meters (1:03.66).
Morningside's recruits also include:
McKayla Arlt, a triple jumper-hurdler from Oakland, Neb: She was a Class C state qualifier in the 300-meter hurdles as a junior and sophomore.
Nicole Ausborn, a distance runner from Nora Springs, Iowa: Ausborn, a graduate of Mason City High School, had a season best of 11:26.31 in the 3,000 meters this past season.
Abby Brown, a hurdler-long jumper from Glenwood, Iowa: Brown is a senior at Glenwood High School, where she helped the team qualify for the Class 3A state meet in the shuttle hurdle relay this past season. She had regular season bests of 16.95 in the 100-meter hurdles and 15-10.75 in the long jump.
Jessie Byrnes, a middle distance runner from Harlan, Iowa: Byrnes placed eighth in the 1,500 meters at this year's Class 3A state meet with a time of 5:00.76.
Neeia Copperwood, a sprinter-long jumper from Omaha: A graduate of Omaha Marian, placed in the top five in three events at this year's Class A state meet. She finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17-11, third in the 200 with a time of 25.25 seconds, and fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.42.
Morgan Deboer, a cross country and distance runner from Council Bluffs, Iowa: A graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, she helped the team qualify for this year's Class 4A state meet in the 3,200 relay. She had regular season bests of 2:36.16 in the 800, 5:43.46 in the 1,500, and 12:16.44 in the 3,000.
Ashley Drey, a cross country runner from Ida Grove, Iowa: Drey, a graduate of Ridge View High School, competed for Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland during her prep cross country career.
Madison Fisher, a discus thrower and cross country runner from Bigelow, Minn: Fisher is a graduate of Sibley-Ocheyedan High School, where she had a season best of 91-9 in the discus this past season.
Alex Howrey, a hurdler-sprinter from Moville, Iowa: Howrey, a senior at Woodbury Central High School, competed for Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central and ran the leadoff leg for a team that placed fifth in the 400 relay at this year's Class 2A state meet.
Christine Madsen, a cross country and distance runner from Sioux City: Madsen will join the Mustangs with freshman eligibility as a transfer from the University of Northern Iowa. Madsen is a 2010 graduate of Sioux City North, where she helped the Stars qualify for the Class 4A state meet in the 3,200 relay as a senior.
Taylor Mahin, a high jumper-sprinter from Omaha: Mahin is a 2011 graduate of Omaha Westside High School.
Hannah Schroeder, a distance runner from Fremont, Neb: Schroeder was a Class 3A state qualifier in the 3,200 this past season.
Lindsey Wichers, a sprinter from Le Mars, Iowa: Wichers is a graduate of Le Mars High, where she was a Class 3A state qualifier in the 100 and the 800 relay this past season.
