FULLERTON, Calif. | College of Idaho, the 25th-ranked team in the NAIA preseason volleyball poll, posted a 26-24, 25-20, 26-24 win over Morningside College Thursday afternoon at the Hope/Vanguard Summer Slam.
Jenn Buyert and Brittni Olson each recorded eight kills for Coach Beth Donnelly’s squad, which closed the two-day tournament with a 3-1 record. Both Olson and Emma Gerber (5 kills) each sported .571 hitting percentages.
Setter Callie Alberico provided 24 assists and eight digs for the Mustangs. Nikki Oberfoell had 17 digs.
MORNINGSIDE 3, SOUTHERN OREGON 1: Jayde Bergmann registered 16 kills and Brittni Olson added 14 as Morningside posted a 25-23, 25-19, 25-27, 27-25 win over Southern Oregon to begin play at Thursday’s Hope/Vanguard Summer Slam.
Olson, a 6-foot-1 sophomore middle blocker from Sergeant Bluff, had only two hitting errors and a .545 attack percentage for the Mustangs, which also received nine and eight kills, respectively, from Jenn Buyert and Ashley Vande Stouwe. Setter Callie Alberico dished 36 assists and also shined defensively, providing 11 digs and two block assists.
Nikki Oberfoell provided 19 digs while Morgan Gourley contributed 11 digs and two ace serves. Vande Stouwe had one solo block and seven block assists while Buyert had three block assists.
DORDT 3, LEWIS-CLARK STATE 0: Second-ranked Dordt, last year’s NAIA National Tournament runner-up, sported a sharp .354 attack percentage with 46 kills in Thursday’s 25-14, 25-20, 27-25 sweep over Lewis-Clark State at the Hope/Vanguard Summer Slam.
Ema Altena, a returning third-team All-American from last year’s 28-8 squad, hit .357 while slamming a team-high 14 kills. Leah Kamp added 11 kills for an offense that also featured 33 assists from returning second-team All-American setter Jamie Gesink.
Summer Jansen topped Dordt’s defense with 16 digs. Ally Krommendyk had a team-high three block assists.
