NEW JERSEY | Iowa rallied back after falling behind No. 16 Rutgers 12-0 after three matches to earn 35-15 victory Friday.
Freshman Alex Marinelli, ranked 13th, made his season debut and beat No. 9 Richie Lewis 6-4 in sudden victory at 165 pounds. No. 2 Brandon Sorensen got the No. 7 Hawkeyes on the board with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Eleazar DeLuca at 149, and that was followed by No. 3 Michael Kemerer earning a 24-8 technical fall over Brett Donner at 157.
Joey Gunther pulled the 5-4 upset of No. 19 19 Jordan Pagano at 174. After Rutgers got the win at 184, No. 8 Cash Wilcke put the Hawkeyes up for good with an 8-3 win over Kevin Mulligan at 197.
Heavyweight Sam Stoll closed the night with a first-period pin for Iowa.
