This website (“Site”) is owned by Sioux City Newspapers, Inc. (“we,” “us,” “our”). If we change, adjust, or modify the Terms of Use we will notify all registered users by e-mail or otherwise.

Registration

Access to some of the content, services, and features on this Site requires users to register using the form provided. Each registered account is for a single user only and registration may require you to provide certain personally identifiable information, such as your name, e-mail address, street address, gender, and date of birth. Online Conduct

We encourage a free and open exchange of ideas in a climate of mutual respect. How are comments posted?

Users have to register with Facebook. Comments are automatically posted, provided they don’t contain obscenities.

How are comments moderated?

Our comment section is designed to offer readers a chance to voice constructive criticism and civil observations. It is not a venue for bashing or name-calling.

The Journal reserves the right to remove any content at any time and to ban any commenter from participating. We also can prevent comments from being posted on any story.

What rules are used to determine if a comment is removed? What is not allowed? 

  • Content that is obscene, defamatory or libelous about a business, product, religion or group, including political parties.
  • Content that is hateful or offensive regarding a person’s racial, ethnic or sexual traits, whether that person is a private or public citizen.
  • Comments that do not stay on the subject. We are not a venue for ongoing arguments.
  • Personal attacks, taunting, baiting or name-calling. Comments directed at a person and not the topic will be removed.  For example: Get a clue, get a life, quit your whining or even simple criticisms of spellings will be rejected. You must show respect for other members of the community.
  • Comments that promote or support violence.
  • Comments determining guilt or innocence. This includes discussing someone’s punishment if the defendant has not been convicted.
  • Flaming content designed to provoke others without adding anything constructive to the debate. Sweeping generalizations about Democrats and Republicans fall into this category, along with efforts to turn a non-political debate into a political debate.
  • Unsubstantiated criticism of a business. We are not a venue for consumer complaints.
  • Advertisements for a business or service.
  • Names or references to vulgar or inappropriate words.
