1. The boys are back in town

Oh yeah. It’s hockey season. Rejoice! Our very own Sioux City Musketeers are anxious to get on the ice and put on a strong showing. And not only that, the Muskies game on Saturday (Oct. 14) is the home opener! The season has just started but we’re pumped to see what the Muskies are made of when they face off against the Sioux Falls Stampede at 7:05 p.m. in the Tyson Events Center. Sport your green and gold and be prepared to shout your support. Let’s go Muskies!

2. Bacon: the best ingredient

Is there any other food in the history of the world that is so universally loved that it’s an additive in every dish from burgers to cupcakes? We think not. That’s the power of bacon. Those savory strips of deliciousness are irresistible. Even vegetarians can hardly contain themselves around bacon. Siouxland Habitat for Humanity recognizes peoples’ love of bacon so much that the organization has hosted BaconFest for many years. Oh yes. There will be bacon. Get your bacon fix at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.

3. Dead sexy

Thanks to Halloween, we now have “sexy” costumes of just about any character imaginable. Sexy vampire? It exists! Sexy devil? You bet! Sexy zombie? Uhh… apparently, yeah! And there will be plenty of sexy zombies gathering at the Firehouse this weekend. The bar is throwing a Dead Sexy Zombie Pin-up Contest & Zombie night at 9 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) following the Zombie Walk and Blood Crawl. So stick your arms out and start trudging over to the Firehouse you ghouls!

4. Triple T

Tony, Toni, Toné has a nice ring to it. That’s what the band members thought when they came up with the group name as a joke so many years ago. The R&B soul group originates from Oakland and is currently made up of Dwayne Wiggins, Timothy Christian Riley and Amar Khalil.

5. Rustic pumpkin

We always hesitate when buying pumpkins to carve for Halloween. In addition to the mess, we also neglect to throw the pumpkin away in a timely manner. OK, it’s our fault we have rotten pumpkins on our doorsteps, but Pickled Palette has found a neat decorative alternative this fall season. Take part in the Rustic Pumpkin class at 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 12) in Pickled Palette to decorate your own personal pottery pumpkin.

6. ‘90s nostalgia

Ah the ’90s -- a time when grunge music, Tamagotchis, Beanie Babies and Nintendo 64 were all the rage. It was a magical era that many still revisit and cherish. Now that ’90s kids are all grown up, they’re ready to party. Luckily for them, The Marquee has planned a Back to the Nineties night featuring DJ Tanner spinning ’90s hits and The Lone Rangers performing its set list of all ’90s cover tunes. Wear your starter jackets and any other ’90s attire at 8 p.m. Friday (Oct. 13) at The Marquee. Prizes will be given out to the best dressed. Crack open a Zima and let’s get to partying!
