1. Steve & Marty
There’s stand-up comedy, and then there’s this. Long-time comics/actors Steve Martin and Martin Short present Siouxland with “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life,” a variety live show presented through a mix of stand-up, musical numbers and conversations about their iconic careers, personal lives and the trials and tribulations of show business. See the duo 7:30 p.m. Saturday (May 19) at the Sioux City Orpheum Theatre.
2. The calm before the finals
Playing the find round of the BAND6k Battle of the Bands semifinals are the Sioux City rock bands Artificial Stars and Thick Mistress. Those of you who follow these two groups on social media know just how much smack talk has been made to hype up this bout. The stakes are high; whoever wins this battle earns a spot in the final round. See who makes it 8 p.m. Thursday (May 17) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.
3. One-year Marq’
Can you believe it’s been a year since The Marquee opened its doors to the public? Pretty crazy. Of course, this calls for celebration. The Fourth Street bar and music venue will host its one-year anniversary party for three days straight. Friday (May 18) will mark country night with Missouri Blend. Saturday (May 19) is a customer appreciation party with free food, music and $1 domestic draws with a performance by the Kris Lager Band. Sunday (May 20) is the day you can get your hands on $5 Ultimate Bloody Marys. Come celebrate!
4. Make some noise for Wynonna
Wynonna Judd’s career spans 34 years, and that alone is enough to make some noise. But what’s really got people roaring about Judd is the collaboration with her band The Big Noise. Combining elements of roots, Americana, blues, soul and rock, the country singer has plenty of room to work with. See Wynonna & The Big Noise at 8 p.m. Sunday (May 20) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.
5. Yo, I’ma let you finish…

6. Morningside Mash-Up
If there’s two things we love to consume as starving Weekender writers, it’s coffee and tacos. Coffee is what keeps us energized and awake; tacos… well, tacos are just too damn good. Luckily, someone had the bright idea of combining the two for Tacos & Nosh Thursdays at the Morningside Library parking lot. Two food trucks await your orders. Coffee & Nosh serves from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. while Daga’s On Wheels serves from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
