1. Goodbye 2017

It’s been a good year… we think? I guess that varies from person to person. Despite politics filling up our social media feeds every damn day, we never let that boring topic stop us from having a good year. So we ought to celebrate! Time to hit the town! Lucky for us all, Sioux City is jam-packed with bars on just about every corner. For you nightlifers, we encourage you to hail a cab or call a designated driver and head on down to your favorite pub. You can bet most bars have something special to bring in the New Year. Cheers!

2. Hip-hop bookmark

Ending the last Saturday of 2017 with a bit of hip-hop sounds like a helluva plan. Thanks go to 4Worn Records, who have arranged a high energy rap show featuring Arkanik, INFL1KT3D, The 402, Lesus Aguiar, C-Note and Fetty Fred. See the show at 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 30) at Whiskey Dick’s. Let’s make it happen, folks.

3. Sioux City songwriters

Whoa. This is a stacked show of local songwriters. The Singer/Songwriter Palooza show at The Marquee features the talents of Ultra Violet Fever’s Angela Lambrecht, GhostCat’s Alex Erwin and Port Nocturnal’s Spencer Aspleaf. You will not be disappointed by this bunch. See for yourself at 9 p.m. Friday (Dec. 29) at The Marquee.

4. Society of metal

Time to have some fun before the year ends. What better way than with a metal show? Black Label Society is set to play at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 29) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City. Playing alongside the heavy metal band fronted by Zakk Wylde is the group Corrosion of Conformity. Get ready to rock the house.

5. Bigger and badder

We don’t mean “bad” in the traditional sense, guys. We mean “bad” in a… good way? Who came up with this silly slang? Anyhow, the Big Bad Cash Band is back and ready to throw down! The group has a knack for playing nothing but Johnny Cash tunes, especially some of the lesser known tracks from the music legend. Enjoy the show at 9 p.m. Friday (Dec. 29) at Marty’s Tap.

6. Last hockey game of the year

I mean, we’re not technically wrong. Although good ol’ 2017 has almost come to a close, our Sioux City Musketeers still have a few games to entertain us with. The Muskies take on the Lincoln Stars at 7:05 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 30), as well as the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 31) at the Tyson Events Centers. Cheer on the home team and bring the noise this New Year!
