1. Hot day
Wait, if Friday is going to be 98 degrees, then how come our weather app says the high is 40 degrees? Oh! Hold on a sec… 98 Degrees the band! OK, OK. We understand now. That’s right the pop “boy band” that originated in the 1990s is scheduled to perform in Siouxland this weekend. The group – made up of Jeff Timmons, Nick Lachey, Justin Jeffre and Drew Lachey – will be playing at 8 p.m. Friday (Nov. 10) at Grand Falls Casino Resort in Larchwood, Iowa. Doors open one hour before showtime.
2. Four parts rock
After a long week, sometimes all you need is a good rock show to lift your spirits. And there will be plenty to rock out to this Friday (Nov. 10) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City. Heavy metal band Trivium will play alongside death metal band Arch Enemy. Opening the show are the groups While She Sleeps and Fit For An Autopsy. The show begins at 6:30 p.m.
3. It'll be pho-n
This cold weather has us craving something hot, spicy and wholesome; a dish that we customize to our liking and enjoy eating inside a comfortable setting; something that can cure the hangover we’ll most likely be recovering from. Well, pho just about covers all those things. This weekend marks the final Sunday Pho-unday of the year at Marty’s Tap. Get to the bar at 1 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 12) to snag a bowl of broth and noodles and enjoy all its wonderfulness.
4. Military appreciation
Our Sioux City Musketeers will be teaming up with Dunes Surgical Hospital to recognize veterans and current service members this Veterans Day. Our home hockey team is set to take on the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Tyson Events Center. New military jerseys will be revealed this game, followed by a jersey auction -- the proceeds of which will go towards Support Siouxland Soldiers.
5. Santa's little helper
Need a cute Christmas card to send to friends and family? Say no more. Just pack up your pet and head on over to Paws N Claus at the Woodbury Center Strip Mall. There you can take part in a holiday-themed photo session with your four-legged friend and maybe pick up a few gifts for them along the way. Best yet, you get to keep the photos. This event serves as a benefit for the Siouxland Humane Society. Get your picture taken after 5:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 10) and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 11 & 12) at 819 Gordon Drive.
6. To the river
The photographers in the Sioux City Camera Club have collected their images and are now up on display at the Sioux City Art Center. With the theme “rivers” in mind, club members looked through their viewfinders to find inspiration from the rivers in “our region and beyond.” See what pictures they’ve taken by visiting the Sioux City Art Center after 10 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The exhibition is open until January 7.
