Modesto is no stranger to this list, having ranked as NICB’s number one “hot spot” for many years. But it has finally fallen out of the top five, while still seeing high rates of motor vehicle theft. Why the drop? The Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force credits their wide-ranging investigative and public service initiatives, like giving out free steering wheel locks for owners of commonly stolen vehicles.
