ESTHERVILLE, Iowa | A man who rammed a police car during a high speed chase east of Estherville, Iowa, faces criminal charges, authorities say.
Michael S. Daniels, 39, of Armstrong, Iowa, was charged with felony counts of drunk driving -- third offense, eluding a law-enforcement officer while driving drunk and assault on a police officer. He also was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving, speeding, driving on the wrong side of a highway, running a stop sign and driving with a suspended license.
Estherville police stopped Daniels for suspicion of drunken driving near Highway 9 and County Road N-32 just before 2 a.m. Sunday.
Daniels drove away when the officer went back to the police car to check for driver's license and warrant information, police say.
He led police on a chase that topped 100 mph on N-32, 180th Street, 430th Avenue, Highway 9 and 500th Avenue, according to Estherville police.
Daniels rammed a police car and was forced into the ditch on 500th Street, police said.
No one was hurt.
