STORM LAKE, Iowa | A college student who reported Friday that his roommate had assaulted him wound up being arrested himself, police said.

Jacob Lewis, 20, of Tipton, Iowa, was arrested and charged with filing a false report to law enforcement, a misdemeanor.

Lewis, a student at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, reported to police shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday that his roommate had choked him and slammed his head into a desk, causing minor injuries, said a release issued by the Storm Lake Police Department.

Responding officers determined that Lewis was accidentally injured in his dorm and no assault had occurred, the release said.

The release said Lewis made up the story to keep his parents from finding out he owed his roommate money.

Lewis was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail, where he remained Tuesday in lieu of $1,000 bail.
