Heavy equipment moves dirt on Jan. 20 at the site of a future Culvers Restaurant at the intersection of 24th Street and Hamilton Boulevard. The eatery is expected to open in mid-May.

SIOUX CITY | A Culver's restaurant under construction along Hamilton Boulevard is set to open in mid-May, according to local franchise owner Rich Riley.

The stand-alone restaurant is being built on the east side of Hamilton at its intersection with 24th Street. The site is adjacent to Hamilton Heights, a three-tenant retail center that houses a Panchero's Mexican Grill, a Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches and a Papa John's Pizza.

Riley currently operates the Culver's in Norfolk, Neb. The Hamilton location will be his second store, and the second in Sioux City.

The first Sioux City Culver's opened in 2003 at 3102 Singing Hills Blvd. Al Pavru and his family are the local franchisees for that Morningside location.

Riley said his territory includes the busy Hamilton Boulevard corridor. He said he is looking forward to joining the local business community.

The Hamilton Culver's will seat 108 and feature an outdoor patio and drive through window. The restaurant will have about 65 full- and part-time employees.

Wisconsin-based Culver's 450 restaurants across 19 states. The brand is known for its butter burgers and frozen custard.

The butter burger term refers to Culver's practice of lightly buttering the toasted crown of the bun.
