Sioux City is one of the top 10 places in the U.S. to find a job.
So says a new report from the online career network Beyond.com. Sioux City ranks No. 7 in the 50 cities with the most job opportunities, according to the report.
Cheyenne, Wyo. tops the list, followed by San Jose, Calif., Manchester, N.H. and Des Moines. Sioux City is the only other tri-state city in the top 10, sandwiched between Lawton, Okla. and Jackson, Tenn.
The Beyond.com's quarterly studies analyze Bureau of Labor Statistics Civilian Labor Numbers and job posting data.
In the fourth quarter, Sioux City boasted a 3-to-1 ratio of unemployed to jobs posted, according to the online report. Job postings grew by 87 percent, compared to the same quarter in 2013.
The online report lists Sioux City's unemployment rate for the fourth quarter at 2.9 percent. That's below the posted rates by Iowa Workforce Development for the same three-month period. In December, for instance, the metro areas jobless rate was 4.4 percent, according to the state agency.
The Beyond.com report lists sales associates, truck drivers and sales managers as top jobs needed in Sioux City. The easiest jobs to hire for, according to the career network, are reservations specialists, cashiers and bank tellers.
Beyond.com lists transportation and logistics, customer service and manufacturing & production as top job creation industries in Sioux City.
The online site notes that Forbes magazine named Sioux City as one of the top 15 best places for businesses and careers, and the cost of living in Sioux City is 16 percent below the national average.
