Updated: Laurence Gonzales has cancelled his appearance at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Betty Strong Encounter Center. The event will be rescheduled.


SIOUX CITY | The author of “The Crash of Flight 232: Stories of Survival” will present a program on the 1989 plane crash in Sioux City.

Laurence Gonzales will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Betty Strong Encounter Center, 900 Larsen Park Road.

Gonzales has interviewed survivors, rescue personnel, air traffic controllers, doctors and nurses in the hospitals, those who ran the morgue, the accident investigators and people who cleaned up the airfield afterward.

He is the author of the bestselling book "Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why” and the sequel "Surviving Survival: The Art and Science of Resilience.”

A book-signing and reception will follow the program. Admission is free.
