SIOUX CITY – Sunrise Retirement Community recently achieved a five-star rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency responsible for overseeing quality in nursing facilities.

The CMS overall rating is generated from an average of three components — survey results, quality measures and staffing levels. With a five-star rating, Sunrise is considered to have "much above average" quality.

“We are excited to announce that we have earned an overall rating of five stars, as it is something we’ve been working on for almost two years,” said Hallie Salmen, Sunrise executive director.

Sunrise Retirement is Siouxland’s only community-based nonprofit retirement community with a charitable mission. As a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity, Sunrise provides a full care continuum including independent living, assisted living, skilled and long-term nursing care, memory care, home health care and homemaker services.
