VERMILLION, S.D. | No. 3 ranked Dakota Valley scored all of its points in the first half and defeated Vermillion 43-16 in a Class 11A game played at the DakotaDome Friday evening.
Zack Poulsen passed for two touchdowns and Sam Chesterman rushed for two more scores to help the Panthers stay unbeaten after six games.
Dakota Valley go the lead 90 seconds into the game when Poulsen found Nathan Rice for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Chesterman and Austin Carter added rushing TD's later in the quarter to put the Panthers up 21-0.
Vermillion pulled to within 21-8 on the last play of the first quarter when Rylan Pratt scored on a one-yard run and Trey Hage scored on a two-point conversion run.
Rice got his second touchdown of the game with 6:28 left in the half on a 28-yard run and Poulsen found Carter for a 28-yard scoring strike to give Dakota Valley a commanding 35-8 lead.
Chesterman scored his second touchdown of the game 47 second before the intermission to give the Panthers a 43-8 lead.
Vermilion (1-5) scored the only points of the second half on 25-yard pass from Brett Culver to Riley Johnson with 5:16 left in regulation.
Dakota Valley hosts its final regular season game next Friday when it takes on West Central.
