SIOUX CITY | The Bishop Heelan and Sioux City East wrestling teams both went 2-0 against the Council Bluffs schools to start the Missouri River Activities Conference season here Thursday.

Heelan defeated Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (60-21) and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (61-18).

Ethan Gilmore (113), Brennan Todd (138), Shyler Langley (195) and Kobe Clayborne each went 2-0 with two pins for the Crusaders. Mitchell Joines (126), Frank Vondrak (152), Luke Martin (160), Caleb Engel (182) and Diego Samaniego (220) each went 2-0 with one pin.

East defeated Thomas Jefferson 36-33 needing the last four matches to earn the win. Trailing 33-18, the Black Raiders won a pair of decisions then followed with wins by pin and forfeit to take the match. East downed Abraham Lincoln 48-27.

Sean Heeney (113), Drew Walters (170) and Dawson DeBell (182) each went 2-0 with a two pins for the Black Raiders. Eric Steele (152) and Patrick Fischer (160) both went 2-0 with one pin. Angel Morales (138) went 2-0.

East head coach Vince Pederson became the school's winningest dual coach with his 174th victory, passing Del Hughes.
