SOUTH SIOUX CITY | Van Rees scored 23 points and went over 1,000 points for his career as the Sioux City East boys basketball team defeated South Sioux City 85-38 here Saturday.
Rees, the fifth player to score 1,000 career points in an East uniform, needed 14 points to reach the milestone.
Jaleque Dunson finished with 19 points for East (3-0) and Aidan Vanderloo added 11.
Kaden Sailors scored 13 points for South Sioux (0-4) and Brad Hartnett had 10.
East finished with 20 assists and 10 turnovers while South Sioux had just eight assists and committed 25 turnovers. East also outrebounded South Sioux 28-15.
The Black Raiders led just 19-16 through the first quarter, but East outscored the Cardinals 27-11 in the second quarter and 22-11 in the third to take a 68-33 lead into the final period.
East plays next at Bishop Heelan on Tuesday while South Sioux hosts Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday.
