Christmas Mass schedules for Catholics

Siouxland Catholic parishes will celebrate Christmas with Masses at different times from their regular schedules.

Christmas – for Catholics – is a holy day of obligation and Catholics are obligated to attend either a vigil or Christmas Day Mass. However, only attending Mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day will not fulfill both the holy day obligation and the Sunday obligation of Dec. 24, according to Father Brad Pelzel, vicar general of the Diocese of Sioux City.

“They are two separate days of precept, and to properly honor our Lord, we must attend separate, proper Masses for the separate days,” he said. “What that means is that we need to attend a Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday morning to fulfill our Sunday obligation and then Sunday evening or Monday morning for our Christmas obligation. One Mass cannot fulfill both obligations.”

Here are the Mass times for Siouxland Catholic churches and institutions for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
