Recipe from Mom (Garnet Verley)

1 1/2 cup shortening

2 cups brown sugar

1/2 cup molasses

2 eggs

4 1/2 cups flour

4 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon cloves

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine shortening, sugar, molasses and eggs. Mix in flour and remaining dry ingredients. Shape into balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheet and slightly flatten out. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
