SIOUX CITY -- An education day will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 7 at UnityPoint Health -- St. Luke's to help connect ostomy patients and their family members to resources and services.
Ostomy is an opening in the body created during an operation for the discharge of body waste. This type of surgery is performed for the treatment of bowel and bladder cancer, diverticulosis, trauma and irritable bowel disease and can be life-saving for patients.
This free event includes presentations, panel discussions and information about ostomy appliances and accessories. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Ostomates are encouraged to bring their unused ostomy products to donate to Friends of Ostomates Worldwide-USA. The supplies collected will be shipped to those in need around the world.
