ORANGE CITY, Iowa | The votes have been tallied, and Diamond Vogel's 2018 Color of the Year is "Atmospheric Pressure."
Atmospheric Pressure is a soft, lavender-blue color, part of Diamond Vogel's ColorEssentials Collection. According to the company, the color pairs well with popular grays, charcoals, and black, as well as popular styles like mid-century, coastal, industrial chic and modern farmhouse.
Sandy Agar-Studelska, color marketing manager at Diamond Vogel, tracks paint industry trends. In a crowd sourcing event in October, where customers voted on the best colors, Atmospheric Pressure was found to be the best-liked.
"We've been watching blues become more popular, along with greens and a lot of other colors," she said. "We've identified these really kind of soft, barely-there type of colors as being very popular."
Agar-Studelska said that mild, muted, colors have become popular because they're calming.
"At the end of the day, we have so much with work and family and other commitments, that when we come home we're just wanting kind of a refreshed environment, where we can 'power down' -- to relax, and have a great atmosphere," she said. "We see these very soft colors as very, very easy to live with."
The other candidates for Color of the Year were Inviting Gesture, a yellow-greenish tan; Ice Flow, a greyish blue-green; and Sultry Castle, a grey color.
