MAPLETON, Iowa -- An Onawa, Iowa, man accused of lying to police last month about how he ended up with a gunshot wound is recovering after a Thursday shooting, authorities said.

Darren Hieber, 32, was shot around 9 a.m. just south of Mapleton, Iowa, said Terry Klooster, of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Klooster would not release details about why Hieber was injured or who fired the weapon. The case is under investigation.

No suspects are at large, Klooster said.

"We don't believe there's anybody out there the public has to be concerned about," he said.

Hieber was released from jail after being charged Monday with conspiracy, reckless use of a firearm and making a false report to law enforcement.

Investigators have said Hieber had an employee of his Onawa business, Hieber Trucking, shoot him in the leg and claim it happened after they interrupted a burglary at the shop. The incident happened Feb. 5.

Authorities have said they think Hieber did it to distract from personal problems.
