The present plan is to knock down the old store and rebuild in the same area. It's not clear whether the new building would be adjoined to the mall, as the Sears space -- 120,000 square feet of tan brick -- was.
Two titans of Black Friday shopping -- Sears at Southern Hills Mall and Shopko on Hamilton Boulevard -- were liquidated this year after their parent companies collapsed. These closures followed other major store closings in the years before.
The home improvement store has purchased the Mall of the Bluffs and will tear down the structure to make room for its new location. Tenants have said they were told to leave by the end of the year or before.
