W 16th Fire

Firefighters were called to a home at 1820 W. 16th St. Thursday morning for a fire.

SIOUX CITY | Firefighters were called to a home at 1820 W 16th St. around 8:48 a.m. Thursday morning, for a fire originating in the home's basement.

Joe Rodriguez, a lieutenant with Sioux City Fire Rescue, said the home's occupants at the time of the fire -- two dogs, three cats and one person -- were all able to exit the home safely.

"All animals were accounted for," Rodriguez said.

The investigation into the fire and its cause is ongoing.

Rodriguez took the opportunity to remind people of the importance of smoke alarms.

"It's important to have working smoke alarms in your homes," he said. "If you do not have any working smoke alarms, please contact our fire prevention office."
