Carson, Huckabee plan Northwest Iowa events this week

SIOUX CITY | Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, running fourth in a new Iowa poll, will campaign in Northwest Iowa on Thursday and Friday.

Mike Huckabee, who is polling at 1 percent in the same Quinnipiac University poll, has stump stops planned in the region the same days.

Carson, a retired surgeon, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the airport in Spencer, Iowa. A planned a stop at the airport in November was postponed due to winter weather.

On Friday, Carson will speak at 9 a.m. at Anderson Auditorium at Buena Vista University, 610 W. Fourth St., Storm Lake; at 3 p.m. at DeWitt Library at Northwestern College, 107 Seventh St. SW, Orange City; and at 7 p.m. at Stoney Creek Inn, 300 Third St., Sioux City.

Carson placed fourth with 10 percent in Monday's poll, trailing Republicans Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Huckabee has stops planned Thursday at 2:45 p.m. at Maintainer Custom Bodies, 909 S. East S., Rock Rapids; at 4:45 p.m. at Sioux County Livestock Co., 1386 S. Main Ave., Sioux Center; and at 7:30 p.m. at VFW Post 3388 Canteen, 314 S. First St., Estherville.

On Friday, he will appear at 8:30 a.m. at Woodford Equipment, 2107 25th St., Emmetsburg; at 10 a.m. at KOFAB, 300 Kofab Drive, Algona; at 1 p.m. at Positech Corp., Rush Lake Road, Laurens; at 2:45 p.m. at Methodist Manor (Lake Pointe Villa), 1206 W. Fourth St., Storm Lake; and at 5 p.m. at Sac on Sixth, 519 W. Main St., Sac City.
