SIOUX CITY -- Competing convenience store chains opened new Sioux City locations Thursday within a few blocks of each other in the Morningside area.
A newly built Kum & Go debuted at Morningside Avenue and South Lakeport St., while a new Casey's General Store welcomed its first customers at Gordon Drive and Stone Avenue.
The Kum & Go replaces an older store just down South Lakeport. The new site quadruples the number of fuel pumps, and adds more parking and 1,000 square feet of interior space.

The new Casey's store, built at the site of a former restaurant nearthe entrance to Western Iowa Tech Community College, is about 1,000 square feet larger than some of the chain's older models.
Each new sites feature eight fuel stations, which can handle up to 16 vehicles at a time.
Kum & Go and Casey's, both headquartered in the Des Moines area, have each built a series of other new, more modern stores in metro Sioux City in recent years.
