STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Storm Lake police have arrested six adults on charges that they physically abused three children with kitchen utensils and other items during an extended period of time.

Police on Jan. 25 received a report from the Iowa Department of Human Services that children ages 11, 8 and 7 had been abused by several members of their father's family and an acquaintance of the father. The DHS had removed the children from their father's home after allegations of his ongoing methamphetamine use.

According to Storm Lake police, the investigation showed that the children's mother was deported several years ago and the children moved in with the father and his family. The father and adult members of his family beat the children with hangers, kitchen utensils, shoes and other items, police said.

Evidence of the ongoing physical abuse and injuries to all three children were revealed during interviews and medical examinations at the Mercy Medical Center Child Advocacy Center in Sioux City, police said.

On Tuesday, police arrested six adults at a house in the 1200 block of North Oneida Street. Arrested on three counts each of child endangerment were: Khemphorn Sriharath, 33; Kesone Sriharath, 31; Phetsamon Sriharath, 21; Bounving Chanthavysouk, 55; Vanly Sriharath, 53; and Nathan Sriharath, 18.
