SIOUX CITY | Sioux City lawyer Mark Cameron Cord III has been appointed to fill an upcoming district associate judge vacancy.

The district judges of the Iowa Judicial Subdistrict 3B on Friday chose Cord over two other finalists.

Cord will fill a vacancy that will be created in February when District Associate Judge Timothy Jarman retires.

Cord is a partner with the Moore Heffernan Moeller Johnson & Meis firm in Sioux City. According to the firm's website, Cord was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and raised in Sioux City. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration in industrial relations/human resources from the University of Iowa in 1988. He received his law degree from the University of South Dakota in 2005.

District associate judges hear serious and aggravated misdemeanor cases, small claims, hospitalization cases as well as juvenile cases and civil suits for judgment of up to $10,000.
