ORANGE CITY, Iowa | A Le Mars, Iowa man has been sentenced to five years in prison on a firearm charge.
Stephen Messelhiser, 32, was sentenced in Sioux County District Court on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and operating while intoxicated. Messelhiser received a two-day jail sentence for the OWI charge.
Messelhiser was arrested Sept. 20 after police stopped him after receiving reports of an erratic driver. During the stop, police determined Messelhiser was intoxicated and driving a stolen vehicle. Police also found five firearms reported stolen in Sioux Falls and other personal and construction items that had been reported stolen.
