SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man has been arrested after leading authorities on a car chase Thursday morning in the Morningside area.

Forrest Orestes Lepe, 36, faces second-degree theft and a number of other charges after crashing a car he had allegedly stolen near the 1800 block of South Palmetto Street.

The pursuit began when a Woodbury County deputy sheriff started to follow the vehicle near Glenn Avenue and South Olive Street, according to the sheriff's office.

During the pursuit Lepe's vehicle hit an unattended vehicle on Maple Street, Major Todd Wieck of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office said. 

Lepe fled the scene of the crash on foot. He was taken into custody near Laurel Avenue and South Olive. A female passenger in the car faces no charges Wieck said.

Authorities charged Lepe with second-degree theft, interference with official acts, driving while license suspended, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, striking an unattended vehicle, failure to stop and give aid at a personal injury accident and a stop sign violation. --Jordan Gonzalez
