SIOUX CITY -- A Sioux City man was arrested Sunday evening after police say he stole merchandise from Shopko and threatened employees with a knife when they tried to stop him.
Wesley Dwight-Richard Reed, 29, was charged with second-degree robbery, aggravated theft, eluding a police officer, failure to obey a police officer and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following the incident.
Court documents say around 7:30 p.m., law enforcement responded to a shoplifting call at Shopko, 3025 Hamilton Blvd. Documents say Reed had concealed merchandise, including cellphone products, in his jacket and walking past the checkout counters. When loss prevention approached him outside the building, Reed pulled out a black knife, pointed it at them and said, "Stay back."
As police arrived on scene, Reed began running away. Documents say he was arrested by officers after crossing a creek. Police say they found a digital scale in his belongings that Reed said he used to weigh drugs.
Reed was being held in Woodbury County Jail on $20,000 bond.
