STORM LAKE, Iowa | Storm Lake Police have charged a 17-year-old girl with first-degree theft after they say she stole more than 1,100 wristbands from King's Pointe Resort in Storm Lake last week.

In total, the wristbands carried a value of more than $17,600.

According to a Storm Lake Police Department news release, resort staff reported the theft Monday, alleging that the 17-year-old girl, of Storm Lake, had taken a large number of wristbands that provide entrance to the park on June 21.

Someone had reportedly seen her handing out the wristbands at the Snack Shack in Awaysis Park, 1409 E Lakeshore Drive, and staff confronted her and recovered 1,178 wristbands valued at $17,670, the release said.

The release said police investigated the incident and believe the girl stole the wristbands with the intent to give them to friends and sell them. Police arrested her Tuesday afternoon and charged her with first-degree theft.

The girl has been released to a parent pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the juvenile court authority.
