SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man was sentenced Monday to more than seven years in prison for possession of child pornography and more than half a pound of cocaine.

Jose Ramon Ortega-Ramirez, 23, a lawful permanent resident, pleaded guilty in November to one count each of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and possession of child pornography.

He was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Sioux City to 90 months in prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, law enforcement officers intercepted a package from Mexico containing 290 grams of cocaine and addressed to Ortega-Ramirez in the name of "Jhon Smith." During a controlled delivery of the package, Ortega-Ramirez identified himself as Jhon Smith, signed for the package and took it inside his home, where police found it hidden underneath a blanket on his bed.

In a plea agreement, Ortega-Ramirez also admitted to possessing images and videos of a minor engaging in sexually explicit activity.
