ONAWA, Iowa -- A Sioux Falls man suspected of committing a double stabbing early Tuesday morning in Onawa is in police custody.

The Onawa Police Department said in a statement that Michael Archambault Jr., 20, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday on an out-of-state warrant and is being detained at the Monona County Jail. 

At 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Onawa Police Department received a report of a stabbing and a disturbance in the 600 block of Sixth Street involving several parties.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that two adults had been stabbed. The alleged assailant had fled the scene, according to police. Both victims were taken to Burgess Health Center by ambulance. Police said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

West Monona Schools staff locked down the elementary school in response to information about the stabbing. The police said in the statement that neither the public nor students or staff were in danger.

The Onawa Police Department is continuing its investigation into the stabbing with assistance from the Monona County Attorney's Office.
