SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa | A Spirit Lake woman whose two young children tested positive for exposure to methamphetamine has been placed on probation.
Shyanne Delgado, 25, had pleaded guilty in August in Dickinson County District Court to two counts of child endangerment.
Following terms of a plea agreement, District Judge Nancy Whittenburg on Monday suspended a five-year prison sentence and placed Delgado on probation for two years.
Delgado was arrested July 26 after the Iowa Department of Human Services had removed her children, ages 3 and 5, from her Spirit Lake home after she had tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana during a visit to a hospital emergency room for a possible drug overdose in June, court documents said. The DHS collected hair samples of the children for testing, and both samples came back positive for methamphetamine.
