STORM LAKE, Iowa | A Storm Lake, Iowa, police officer shot and killed a dog Thursday. It was the second day in a row officers used force to subdue a loose dog.

The officer shot the animal while responding to a report of an aggressive, loose pit bull, Storm Lake police said in a statement.

The call came in about 9:45 a.m. from the 800 block of West Eighth Street. That's on the northwest side of town.

Police said officers chased the dog a few blocks to the Field of Dreams baseball park. They tried unsuccessfully to subdue the animal with a catch pole and a stun gun. The dog was shot when it tried to bite an officer, police said.

Owner William Reyes, 26, of Storm Lake, was cited for allowing a dog to run at large.

On Wednesday, police shot a pit bull with a stun gun on South Windsor Circle. That dog was taken to a local animal hospital and is expected to recover.
